Ophthalmology in an scientific exchange with cardiology

Cardiovascular diseases are risk factors in many eye diseases, like primary open angle glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and vascular occlusions. However, the effects of cardiovascular diseases on the eye are not well understood until now. Structural and functional changes in choroidal and retinal vessels as well as psychophysiologically disturbances relating to cardiovascular diseases will be described. Herewith a more intensive interdisciplinary cooperation between cardiology and ophthalmology is emphasized.
