Medical service not covered by the German Public Health Insurance – Innovations in diagnosis, prevention and treatment

Bayer A.
Präventivzentrum für Augenheilkunde ADC Weilheim

Innovations in diagnosis, prevention and treatment in Ophthalmology are often not covered by the German Public Health Insurance. The public concern and the innovations in evidence-based eye care are a must to offer this kind of medical service. A long list of services offered to patients demonstrates the competence of an eye doctor's office:
- early detection of glaucomatous optic neuropathy
- early detection of progressive glaucomatous damage
- prevention of neovascularisations in the macula
- correct diagnosis of the most successful treatment windows in wet AMD
- prevention of proliferative diabetic retinopathy
- identification of patients at risk for blinding diseases
- the patients demand for an exact correction of visual acuity
- easy access to health products including vitamins
- alternative treatments
- offering release for the symptoms of dry eye disease
- networks for prevention of cardio- and cerebrovascular diseases
The presentation will give a complete overview about the medical and legal opportunities of a medical service offered to patients who are willed to pay out of their pockets.
