AbstractP 009 Follow-up of glaucoma patients after sclerothalamotomy Aue A., Hirn C., Luksch A., Stifter E., Vass C. Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry, Medical University of Vienna Objective: To present the postoperative follow-up of glaucoma patients after sclerothalamotomy (STT). Methods: 19 Patients receiving either STT (n=13) or a combined treatment of cataract surgery and STT (n=6) were evaluated retrospectively. Data were taken from intraocular pressure (IOP) (Goldman applantatory tonometry) , the amount of IOP lowering substances, visual acuity (VA) and visual field (VF) (30°, Humphrey Field Analyzer 2). Postoperative controls were scheduled 1 day, 1 week, as well as 1, 3 and 6 months, respectively. For statistical analysis t-test was performed. Results: The mean age was 65,9 years (±14,8), the mean preoperative IOP was 22,8 mm Hg (±6,3) with an average of 2,8 (±1) IOP lowering substances. The mean VA was 0,6 (±0,29). Previous operations had occurred in 0,8 (±1,2) eyes (0,5 (±0,9) for glaucoma, 0,3 (±0,6) for other reasons). The mean deviation in VF was -11.0 dB (±8,5), the mean follow-up was 6,1 (±2,2) months. The mean IOP 1 week postoperatively was 22,1 mm Hg (±8,6) using 1,4 (±1,6) IOP lowering substances. After 1 month the mean IOP was 20,8 mm Hg (±6,9) using 2,1 (±1,5) substances, after 3 months the IOP was 20,7 mm Hg (±7) with 2,1 (±1,7) and after 6 months 21,1 mm Hg (±6,7) with 2,6 (±1,5) substances, respectively. The statistical analysis showed no significant differences in IOP and lowering substances, respectively. The analysis of the subgroups showed a significantly lower IOP in the combined surgery group before and after surgery, as well as a significantly lower amount of IOP lowering substances after surgery. Conclusions: The combination of cataract surgery and STT seems to reduce the amount of substances needed to lower the IOP in glaucoma patients.
