AbstractP 169 Clinical outcome and wavefront analysis of the new aspheric Tecnis Z9003 IOL Sanchez M. J., Holzer M. P., Rabsilber T. M., Ehmer A., Auffarth G. U. Universitäts-Augenklinik Heidelberg Objective: To study the clinical outcome and wavefront results of a new acrylic foldable aspheric IOL (AMO Tecnis Z9003) Methods: 30 Patients (aged 74.1±10.5 years) received in one eye an AMO Tecnis Z9003 acrylic foldable aspheric IOL (n=30) and an AMO Sensar AR40e acrylic foldable IOL (identical IOL design and material) (n=30) in the other eye. Uneventful surgery was performed under the same surgical conditions and from the same surgeon. After 2 months postoperatively patients were evaluated for: visual acuity, contrast sensitivity and total wavefront error under pupil dilatation at least of 5mm (OPD Scan II, Nidek). A patient questionnaire was added to evaluate quality of vision. Results: Preoperative visual acuity increased in the 2 months postoperatively control in both groups. LogMAR Pre-op Tecnis: 0,5±0,1 AR40e: 0,5±0,2. LogMAR Post-op Tecnis: 0,08±0,1 AR40e: 0,13±0,1. The eyes with the spherical AR40e IOL showed positive aberrations (Z12 = spherical aberration) whereas by eyes implanted with the aspheric Tecnis Z9003 IOL lower aberrations were found. The subjective questionnaire revealed a tendency to improve quality of vision in eyes implanted with the Tecnis IOL Conclusions: The Eyes implanted with the aspheric Tecnis Z9003 IOL showed reduced spherical aberrations. The Tecnis Z9003 IOL seems to compensate the corneal`s positive spherical aberrations of the eye compared to the non aspherical AR40e IOL.
