AbstractDO.21.04 Advances in anterior segment imaging physical background and clinical applications Stachs O. The advances made in diagnostic and imaging techniques within the past years have revolutionized the clinical approaches and the management of many ophthalmic diseases. The main techniques used for imaging the anterior segment are confocal microscopy, slit-lamp biomicroscopy, ultrasound biomicroscopy, scheimpflug imaging, phakometry, optical coherence tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Especially in anterior segment imaging, the crystalline lens and IOLs are becoming increasingly more important to optimize the refractive outcome of cataract surgery, to detect and manage complications to ascertain advanced IOL performance. But all acoustic and light detection techniques are subject to image distortion by interventing surfaces, this requiring mathematical remodelling. This review examines recent advances and problems in anterior segment imaging. |
