Abstract

FR.24.02

Antibody formation in the aqueous humor in uveitis

Quentin C. D., Reiber H.
Department of Ophthalmology, University of Göttingen

Intraocular antibody synthesis is detected in aqueous humor with the Antibody Index (AI) calculated with the Goldmann-Witmer quotient.
The aqueous humor of patients with an uveitis of unknown origin is investigated routinely. Under local anasthetic eyee drops the anterior chamber is entered with a 30-gauge needle and approximately 0.1 to 015 ml of aqueous humor is aspirated. In parallel a blood sample of the patient is collected.
Measles-, rubella-, herpes simplex-, varrizella zoster- and Ebstein Barr virus, Toxoplasma gondii and Borrelien antibodies can be investigated in the same sample of aqueous humor. A laboratory-supported diagnosis of the uveitis can improve the clincal diagnosis and therapy.
