AbstractSA.27.12 Implantation experiences with the Akreos AO MI60 Mics intraocular lense von Eicken J., Höh H. Eye Department of Dietrich-Bonhoeffer Hospital Neubrandenburg Objective: In a pilot study we examined the implantation properties of the recently introduced Akreos AO MI60 MICS intraocular lens (Bausch & Lomb, Berlin) and the suggested injektorsystem (Viscoject 1.8, Medicel). Methods: From 11/06 to 1/07 bimanuel extracapsular phako was performed by 3 surgeons in 50 eyes via two1.7mm (22), 1.8mm (9) und 2.0mm (21) corneal incisions. After that procedure AkreosÒ AO MI60 MICS IOL was implanted in the bag with the special injectorsystem. Results: It was possible to implant the IOL as well through a 1.7mm and 1.8mm corneal incision by the docking technique as through a 2.0mm corneal incision by placing the injector cartridge tip completely in the incision. Independent the implantation technique a stretching of the corneal incision was observed in the range of about 0.1mm. MICS-IOL centered spontaneously after implantation. In 11 eyes IOL-haptic was incarcerated between cartridge tip and injector stamp. In 5 eyes this led to a partial or complete break of the absortion area at the peripheral haptic. These problems appeared more frequent, if IOL was inserted by the surgeon (23% versus 15%). Early external unfolding outside the eye or in the corneal incision was observed in three eyes; in one case IOL unfolded inverse in the anterior chamber. One IOL was excluded because of a cartridge failure. All IOLs were delivered correctly inserted in the delivery holder. The surgeons graded the MICS-IOL and injectorsystem with good. Conclusions: These data indicate the excellent implantation and centering properties of Akreos AO MI60. The observed implantation problems were attributed to the relative soft injectortip. Using a harder Silcontip should resolve this problem. The other problems are correlated with the learnig curve and are not more frequent than with other MICS-IOL.
