Objective: The new developed ReSTOR MIOL is characterized by a combined diffractive-refractive optic design with accentuation on the distance vision with increasing pupil size
Methods: In a prospective study 30 patients received after bilateral phacoemulsification the Acrysof ReSTOR, the following parameters have been established after 3 month: uncorrected and bestcorrected monocular and binocular distance vision acuity measured with EDTRS charts, contrast vision acuity under photopic and mesopic conditions measured with EDTRS charts (10% and 25%), near distance vision acuity with C.A.T, contrast sensitivity with F.A.C.T. Patients satisfaction was evaluated by a standardized questionnaire.
Results: Patient mean age was 72±6 years. The postoperative spherical equivalent was 0.24±0.4, cylinder -0.26±0.5. Mean binocular distance vision was 1.0 uncorrected and 1.18 bestcorrected, uncorrected near vision acuity was 0.83. Contrast acuity was 0.83 (25%) and 0.6 (10%) under both photopic and mesopic conditions. Contrast sensitivity with the Acrysof ReSTOR was within the normal range. 83% of the patients were completely spectacles independent. 13% needed distance correction for driving. 75% of the patients didn’t report any problems with halos, only one patient described severe disturbance.
Conclusions: Patients satisfaction with the Acrysof ReSTOR MIOL was very high.
