AbstractSA.15.08 Results one year after implantation of bitoric aspheric IOL. A prospective study regarding safety and efficiency of the MICS lens ACRI.SMART 646TLC Breyer D. R. H., Winsauer E. ZeitzBreyer, Augenkeilkunde an den Schadow Arkaden, Düsseldorf Objective: The goal of modern cataract surgery is an astigmatism correcting operation. The choice of the location of incision and/or the use of relaxing incisions alone is not enough to correct higher astigmatisms or is maybe associated with a higher rate of complications. Therefore the implantation of a toric IOL for the correction of higher astigmatism is widely spread. The aim of this new IOL is an improved quality of optics. Moreover it is possible to implant the lens via MICS techniques through a 1.5 mm tunnel. With this aspheric IOL the cylinder is symmetrically distributed on its anterior and posterior surface. The result is a reduced difference of the radius between sphere and cylinder, which improves the quality of the optics of the bitoric lens, compared to a monotoric lens, which concentrates the cylinder on one side of the IOL. Methods: It is reported about 25 eyes, in which a bitoric IOL is implanted to correct astigmatism over 2.0 dpt. The foldable acrylic lens is injected through a 2.00 or a 2.65 incision. The duration of the study was 12 months and the ophthalmological parameters, especially the postoperative astigmatism, visual acuity, rotational stability and centration of the lens was prospectively evaluated and analysed. Results: All eyes show significant reduction of astigmatism, which was up to 7 dpt preoperative. After one year the centration and rotation (cylinder) is stable in all eyes. In six eyes we have a complete neutralisation of astigmatism, 15 eyes are below 0,75 dpt cyl. In two eyes we had to correct the rotation of the IOL. Conclusions: The implantation of this new developed bitoric MICS IOL is a big improvement of correcting higher astigmatisms during cataract surgery.
