AbstractDO.19.05 Relapses after surgical therapy of periocular basal cell carcinomas Bertelmann E., Rieck P. Augenklinik, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Campus Virchow-Klinikum, Berlin Objective: Surgical resection with safety margins is considered as the safest option for therapy of periocular basal cell carcinomas. Patients of one center were examined with regard to tumour relapses and risk factors. Methods: Between 2003 and 2006 366 basal cell carcinomas were resected in our clinic by one surgeon. The patients were examined regularly and tumor relapses and potential risk factors as tumour localization, histological subtype and previous relapses were documented. Results: The safety margin for resection was in each case at least 3 mm. In the analysed group of patients 3 relapses were documented (0.8%). 2 of 3 relapses occured in patients with previous relapses, 2 of 3 relapses occurred in patients with tumour localization in the medial canthus. One relapse was seen after resection of a basalioma of morpheic histological subtype. Conclusions: In spite of largest case number in the region the collective is relatively small. The number of relapses is comparable to or below similar studies. Resection of previously replapsed tumours seem to represent a risk factor for further relapses. In our collective relapses in the medial canthus an in tumours of morpheic subtype were more frequent. Nodular basal cell carcinomas did not relapse in our patients.
