AbstractSO.12.05 Comparative clinical study of visual results between three types of multifocal lenses Gierek-Ciaciura S., Cwalina L., Pierzchala A. Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Silesia, Katowice Objective: Evaluation of the patients visual results after bilateral implantation of refractive AMO ReZoom (NXG1) in comparison to diffractive Acrysof Restor (SA60D3) and AMO Tecnis (ZM900). Methods: A prospective, nonrandomized study of 30 patients (60 eyes) divided into three equal groups which have implanted bilaterally three types of multifocal lenses: AMO Rezoom (group 1); Acrysof Restor (group 2) and AMO Tecnis (group 3). Patients selection included no other eye disease besides cataract and corneal astigmatism of 1.5 diopters or less. In each case phacoemulsification was performed with IOL implantation into the bag. The postoperative target was emmetropia ±1.0D. Mean follow-up was 6 months in all eyes. Slit lamp examination, uncorrected and best-spectacle corrected far and near visual acuity, autorefractometry, IOP, contrast sensitivity and defocus curve were performed. Results: After surgery all eyes in three study groups were within ±1.5D of target refraction. Mean uncorrected distance visual acuity improved in all cases. Postoperative BCDVA was better than 20/30 at 6 months in all eyes. At final visit 84% of eyes in the Rezoom group achieved J2 (Jaeger standard) in comparison to 87 and 89% in the Restor group and Tecnis group, respectively. Patients satisfaction after procedure was excellent; the scoring on the VF-14 ranged from 70-100%, with an average of 83%. No patient was dissatisfied with the results of the surgery. Conclusions: The implantation of multifocal intraocular lens provides good near and distances visual acuity, offers full range of vision and reduces dependency on glasses but accurate patients selection is necessary to obtain satisfying results.
