Objective: The work study the close and distant clinical effect of the proposed method of the operative treatment of children’s strabismus.
Methods: The way of doing that consists of П-form separation of sclera’s surface layers in the place of attaching the muscle’s tendon and the shift of the tendon with the separated sclera backwards within the measured distance, followed by sewing on of П-form sclera’s shred to the episclera.
Results: Results. Under the supervision there were 49children at the age of 4-15. All the children had the cooperated strabismus. 32 children had the strabismus angle up to 15 degrees, 11 children had the strabismus angle of 25-30 degrees, and 6 children had the strabismus angle of more than 45 degrees. 25 children had the operation of the proposed method on both eyes. 17 children had the operation done on both straight muscles at once – recession and resection.
The operative treatment of the children didn’t cause any complication. As to the cosmetic aspect this operation is more favorable, compared with classical recession of the straight muscle, because in the proposed method there is no danger to cut sclera seams and lose the muscle.
In two weeks after the operation it was discovered that 42 children (85,7%) had orthophoria and 7 children (14,3%) had the reduction of strabismus angle. Under the condition of retention of residual strabismus angle children were operated again in half a year.
In a year it was revealed that 45 children (91,8%) had orthophoria, 4 children had residual strabismus angle up to 15 degrees.
Conclusions: The proposed method of strabismus treatment is simple in performing, besides it lessens the time of performing the operation; the method has favorable functional and cosmetic results; and the danger of inter- and after- operational complications is eliminated.
