Abstract

DO.06.04

Joint project for investigation of a potential femtosecond laser therapy of presbyopia

Dick M.
Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena

Within German BMBF funded initiative SOMIT (smoothly surgery with innovative technology) investigates one consortium of 6 institutes, 4 companies and 2 clinics under coordination of OIT (Ophthalmoinnovation Thüringen e.V.) a new method for femtosecond-laser-therapy of presbyopia. Comprehensive consistent diagnosis datasets about the accommodative behaviour of the lens serve as a basis for a simulation of lens dynamics. Femtosecond laser interferences inside the lens are studied experimentally in vitro and will be studied metrological later in animal trials. Aim is a clinical study, which will show feasibility and efficiency of this potential presbyopia therapy.
