Abstract

Endothelial dysfunction of retinal blood vessels in LTG

Objective: Find of IOP- independent risc parameters in glaucomatous optic disc atrophy
Methods: The „flicker-induced hyperemia“ of retina was measured with scanning laser doppler flowmetry (HRF, Heidelberg engineering). The retinal blood circulation was determinated 3 times bevor and 3 times after flicker stimulation(full-field flicker, white-light, 30s flicker stimulus, 10Hz). The blood pressure was determinated bevor and after stimulation. Statistical analyze was calculated wit mann-whitney u-test for non-parametrical unpaired samples (SPSS 14.0). We investigated one eye per patient in 47 patients with LTG(LTG, age=58±11y, max.tensio=21±2mmHg, md=5.5±5,7dB), 53 patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG, age=58±11y, max.tensio=32±8mmHg, md=2.4±4.6dB) and 46 normals (control, age=57±11y, max.tensio=19±3mmHg, md=0.4±2.6dB).
Results: A 30s stimulation of retina with white-light flicker(10Hz) generated a significant increasing of retinal capillary blood circulation. In LTG patients was the „flicker-induced hyperemia“ 16±24% and was with it significantly lower as in normals (27±18%, p<0.0001) and in POAG-patients(30±29%,p=0.008). Between normals and POAG patients was no significant difference on the „flicker-induced retinal hyperemia“.
Conclusions: The reduced „flicker-induced retinal hyperemia“ in LTG patients suggests to a endothelial dysfunction of retinal blood vessels.
