AbstractP 010 Results after Ahmed-Valve implantation Knop C., Vorwerk C., Schmitz K., Walter S., Behrens-Baumann W. Universitäts-Augenklinik Magdeburg Objective: Currently different surgical procedures for patients with uncontrolled IOP are worldwide performed. Main reasons are resistance to topical antiglaucomatous drugs, allergies and non-compliance. In this cases, filtrating surgery, such as trabeculectomy is one of the most frequently used methods. Unfortunately often scarification after trabeculectomy occurs and intraocular pressure remains high. The implantation of an Ahmed-Valve is sometimes the last posibility of regulating the intraocular pressure. Methods: In our clinic an Ahmed-Valve was implanted in 8 eyes of 7 patients (4m, 3w) aged 27 to 85 years. The diagnosis was POAG (3 cases), angle closure glaucoma (2 cases), Buphthalmus (1 case) and Neovaskularisation glaucoma (1 case). The follow-up lasted up to 21 months and consisted of visual acuity, intraocular pressure, perimetry and funduscopy. Results: Before surgery the medium intraocular pressure was 32 mmHg with a maximum of antiglaucomatous drugs. 14 days after Ahmed valve implantation the pressure was reduced by 53,2%. In the follow-up of 6 to 12 months the pressure ranged between 14 and 17 mmHg. The number of antiglaucomatous drugs was reduced from 3 before implantation to 1 after implantation. In our patients there were only minor complications: hyphema (2 cases), amotio chorioideae lasting a few days (1 case), dislocation of Ahmed-tube (1 case). There were no severe complications. Conclusions: Implantation of Ahmed-Valve is a safe procedure of regulation of intraocular pressure in patients with multiple previous operations and resistance or non-compliance to topical antiglaucomatous treatment.
