AbstractP 090 The tubed pedicle flap by V.P. Filatov: an epoch in plastic surgery (1917 2007) Maryshev Y. A., Droshina G. I. Academician V.P. Filatov (1875 - 1956) contributed many aspects in general medicine. The tubed pedicle flap - (the оriginal method of plastic surgery) was the first among his achievements in medicine. On September 9, 1916, Filatov performed the first cervical tubed pedicle. On November, 22 he reported his operation and presented this case before the Ophthalmological Society of Odessa. Original article Plastic Procedure Using a Round Pedicle (in Russian) Filatov published in the Vestnik Oftalmologii of April - May, 1917. This method constituted new epoch in plastic and reconstructive surgery development. But this Filatovs invention of genius not at once has come in practice of clinical physicians easily and without serious consequences. During the period the First World War and Civil War in Russia (1918 - 1920) the exchange of sources with foreign countries was very difficult and almost impossible. Major Harold Delf (later Sir Harold) Gillies (1882 - 1960), who established plastic surgery in England, on October 3, 1917 performed, independently, his first operation using tubed pedicle flaps was the same the Filatovs method and published this case in various places during 1920. There was a question on priority. It has been discussed at meeting of April 12, 1923 the Surgical Society of Odessa and established beyond doubt Filatovs historical priority in the use of the tubed pedicle flap. Filatov was a prophet with honor his own country; he achieved for his contributions, of which the tubed pedicle was only one, the highest honors and distinctions that this country could bestow upon him. In 1943 Filatov reaffirmed his priority and asserted that Gillies first published acknowledgement of Filatovs priority did not appear until 1935. The tubed flap graft is a wide practice of reconstructive surgery and the method for the restoration of large defects of organs and tissues of human body. |
