Gonioscopy – strategies and guidelines

Pache M.
Universitäts-Augenklinik Freiburg

Gonioscopy, first introduced by Alexios Trantas in 1907, is still a valuable tool in the opthalmologist’s armamentarium. Various types of gonioscopes as well as examination strategies and diagnostic criteria will be discussed. Moreover, clinical examples of conditions in which gonioscopy is essential (e.g. closed angle, goniodysgenesis) will be presented In addition, current recommendations of BVA and DOG, European Glaucoma Society, and American Academy of Ophthalmology will be briefly summarized.
