Autologue sera for ocular surface diseases: making according to legal regulations

Autologue sera are used in clinical routine e.g. for the treatment of severe dry-eye. The production of these eye drops are still not standardized, prospective clinical trials are missing, the mechanisms are widely unknown, but this kind of treatment is highly accepted by patients. The making of these eye-drops is furthermore hampered by strict legal regulations. In this paper, the problems, but also a way to comply with the legal regulations will be discussed (“Mainzer Modell”).
