AbstractP 176 Colorimetric analysis of iris colour in a patient with a blue aniridia lens Kuchenbecker J., Grüngreiff H. Augenklinik, HELIOS Klinikum Berlin-Buch Objective: Aniridia lenses can be significantly lighter and differ in colour compared to the iris of the opposite eye, according to the manufacturers information. A precise measurement of the colour difference has not yet been performed. Methods: Case report. Results: A 20-year-old male patient was treated with a sclera-fixed blue aniridia lens (type ANI II blue, +23 D, Ophtec) after traumatic lens and extensive iris loss in the right eye. Postoperatively there was a marked difference in colour between the eyes. A 3-point colorimetry of the iris of the opposite eye and of the aniridia lens was then performed at an illumination of 6500 °K. The mean RGB values (R: 104,147,131; L: 55,85,85) and their transformation to the CIE XYZ colour space were measured, together with determination of the colour difference using the CIE 2000DE formula. The measured colour difference (DeltaE) was 18.8. The aniridia lens was much lighter and less blue than the iris of the healthy eye. Conclusions: The lightness and colour of the aniridia lens differed greatly from that of the opposite eye. It would be desirable if these parameters of the natural iris could be better matched by the manufacturer.
