Endotamponades: problems and possible solutions

Weinberger A. W. A.
Universitäts-Augenklinik der RWTH Aachen

Today, the use of endotamponades is a standard procedure in vitreoretinal surgery. Besides gas tamponades like air, SF6 and C3F8 permanent endotamponades, primarily silicone oils of varying viscosity and densitity are in clinical use.
This presentation will focus on the latest developments in permanent endotamponades, describe problems resulting from emulsification, dispersion, anterior chamber prolaps and retinal adhesion, and will discuss possible solutions.
